These days more and more people in the UK are deciding to work on a self employed basis and go it alone in terms of their career.
If you are self employed you can earn far more, work hours that are convenient to you, work from home, and enjoy far more flexibility and control.
But it must be said that self employment has it's negative side also, and one thing that's hard is coming up with financing that you may need.
Self employed people were treated in the same way as bad credit consumers, by many lenders, who considered them as a high risk. This means that it was difficult for self employed people to get a loan through many of the traditional lenders, and often even if they could get a loan the interest rates charged were crippling.
It has become easier to get finance as a self employed person but over recent years, with more and more people opting to go self employed and competition becoming stiffer between lenders.
For getting loans on both a secured and an unsecured basis you should be self employed. As the risk to the lender is reduced due to the secured nature of the loan, and therefore the borrower has a higher chance of success hence in most cases it is easier to get a secured loan.
Be aware that this kind of loan is secured by your home, so defaulted on the agreement could put your property at risk.
The good news is that more and more unsecured lenders are now catering for the self employed, and providing you have been self employed for a certain period of time as specified by the lender - generally at least two or three years - and you can prove your annual income then you could get a really good deal on an unsecured loan.
It is important to compare the options and different loan packages when looking for a self employed loan, and the easiest way to do this - and to make your application - is to harness the power of the Internet and go online as with all loans.
