Childhood of Guru Har Rai Ji

Sri Har Rai Ji was the grandson of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji and Baba Gurditta Ji's son. He incarnated through the womb of Mata Nihaal Kaur, at Keeratpur Sahib, in Sheesh Mahal, on Maag Sudi 13, 1687 Bikrami. His elder brother, Dhir Mal, was to become an enemy of the Guru's House, as predicted by Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji in his childhood days. In contrast Sri Har Rai Ji was a humble, talented youngster ,who devoted most of his time in service of the Guru's House. His kindness and softness of heart was unmatched. He would not hurt any living thing. It once happened that he was strolling in a garden, when a flower strangled with his dress causing all the petals to scramble on the ground. He was so disappointed that he stood still near the flower criticizing himself for his carelessness. Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, Who happened to pass by, stopped and questioned the kid the reason for his grief. When the youngster revealed his mind, the Guru was quite moved by the tenderness of his heart. To teach him a lesson the Guru said in a deep calm voice, "Son ! When we wear a big dress, we must learn to nurture a bigger responsibility on our shoulders. We should take due care that an innocent is never hurt, because once the harm is done it can not be undone. Even our remorse does no good to the one who has been hurt." The kid bowed his head and promised to abide by it throughout his life. The noble characteristics of the Guru only increased by the day. Guru Hargobind Sahib was so impressed by him that He made him the seventh Guru of Sikhs.
